You significantly increase your likelihood of becoming a victim of cyber crime if you do not take measures to protect your digital footprint. The statistics speak for themselves.
Cybersecurity Stats: Facts And Figures You Should Know
Increased security often comes at the expense of simplicity and usability. My personal approach is to strike a balance between the two.
Privacy is closely related to security. The goal is to control the type of information others have about you. Even if you have “nothing to hide” you are still entitled to controlling your data and information.
Example:
Imagine you need to use the restroom. You can announce to everyone, "Hey, I'm going to the bathroom!" They all know what you're doing in there – using the facilities.
However, even though they know the general activity, you still want the privacy of a closed door. You don't want them to see the specifics, the sounds, or the details.
